About the role
Introduction
An established retail group is seeking an Engineering Lead to guide a team delivering customer-focused technology platforms. Based in Cape Town, this hybrid role combines three days in the office with two days working remotely. You will shape technical direction, strengthen engineering delivery and improve the reliability, security and performance of business-critical platforms.
Role Responsibilities
Lead and mentor engineers, encouraging collaboration, innovation and continuous learning.
Define and execute a technical roadmap aligned with business objectives and customer needs.
Guide platform design, development and optimisation, with a focus on scalability, reliability and security.
Support delivery of complex projects on time and within budget.
Partner with product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Improve engineering processes, development workflows and tools.
Monitor platform performance and identify opportunities to improve the customer experience.
Evaluate emerging technologies and their relevance to the business.
Experience Requirements
Proven software-development and technical-leadership experience, with successful delivery of complex projects.
Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
Deep understanding of software architecture, design patterns and engineering best practices, supported by hands-on backend and frontend development experience.
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure and modern development frameworks and tools.
Ability to prioritise and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
The technology environment includes C#, JavaScript, SQL, Python and Go; Angular, React, .NET and .NET Core; Entity Framework and Hibernate; Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL; Azure, AWS and Kafka. These are technologies used by the team, not a requirement to master every listed tool.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
