A growing force in South Africa's financial services and digital banking space is looking for a Senior Data Scientist with deep credit risk analytics experience. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement based in Bellville, Western Cape, and is suited to a quantitative specialist who wants to shape credit decisioning end to end.
Role Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will develop, enhance and implement analytical solutions across the credit risk lifecycle. Working closely with business and technical stakeholders, you will use advanced statistics, data analytics and programming to solve complex business problems and turn large datasets into practical credit decisions.
Develop and enhance credit risk models and analytical solutions across the end-to-end credit lifecycle
Use statistical modelling, data mining and predictive analytics to support credit decisioning and portfolio performance
Analyse large, complex datasets and convert them into clear, actionable business insights
Support pricing, profitability analysis and portfolio analytics initiatives
Partner with business and technical stakeholders to implement data-led credit strategies
Present complex analytical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
Experience Requirements
5+ years' experience in credit risk analytics or credit risk modelling
Strong understanding of the end-to-end credit risk lifecycle
Strong SQL programming capability
Python experience preferred; strong SAS experience will be considered where there is clear ability to transition to Python
Experience in pricing, profitability analysis and portfolio analytics advantageous
Strong statistical modelling, data analysis and problem-solving skills
Experience working with large, complex datasets in a business environment
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Education Requirements
Honours degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Actuarial Science, Quantitative Risk Management or a closely related quantitative discipline
Master's degree in a quantitative field advantageous
